Pierre Chareau
Sofa with wooden frame upholstered with polyurethan foam, velvet covering.
History:
Designed in 1923 by Pierre Chareau. Chareau placed two of these sofas in the Living Room of his celebrated Maison de Verre. Chareau originally produced this sofa in velvet with a contrasting seat and back covered in either leather in tapestry. In the Maison de Verre the sofas have tapestry seats and backs based on a design by Jean Lurcat. The sofa was clearly designed to be used as a kind of double chaise longue. Because of the contoured ends, two persons tend to face each other, facilitating conversation.
