Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Table in ashwood painted. Folding oval top.
History:
Designed in 1918 by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. This remake of the traditional gateleg table was designed for the country home of the industrial W.T. Basset-Lowke. The client proved to be difficult and the design of the table with accompanying chairs and sideboard was not accepted. Roger Billcliffe, author of the standard biography of Mackintosh feels that judging from the careful detailing of the executive drawings - Mackintosh considered this series as particularly important.
